OVERVIEW
Austgen Electric's Company Safety Policy is to provide and maintain safe working conditions for all employees. Austgen Electric's management team is responsible for providing the proper equipment procedures and protective devices for all employees in order to maintain safe working conditions and to comply with all safety laws. It is the employee's responsibility to follow safety rules and regulations, maintain an active interest in keeping safe work habits, and be a participant in helping improve safety within the company. Austgen Electric wants to provide working conditions that will assure employees and customer employees peace of mind when thinking about their own personal safety. Providing and maintaining a safe working environment requires a team effort. When an employee discovers any condition they consider unsafe, they report it immediately to their supervisor. All employees are trained to stay alert at all times and are directed not to take unnecessary risks. Austgen Electric understands the importance of safety and is proud to have an outstanding safety record. We strive to improve our safety program on a continuous basis.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The success of any safety program depends upon a number of factors. The company, upper management, safety director, supervisors, and employees must assume a degree of responsibility for the success of the program. Each segment of the company has the responsibility of assuring the success of the program. The attitude of all parties is very important to the success of the program.
COMPANY
The company has the duty and responsibility to provide a safe place to work that is free of recognized hazards. The company has the duty to provide the tools, training and enforcement of established safety rules and recommendations.
UPPER MANAGEMENT
Upper management has the duty and responsibility of supporting the company's safety and loss control program and the company safety director. This should be accomplished by active support of the safety program, active support of those individuals responsible for safety, and by example. Location managers must create a positive safety attitude at their locations.
LOSS CONTROL DIRECTOR/COORDINATOR
Austgen Electric's safety director has the duty and responsibility to oversee the company's corporate safety program, to make certain that each location has needed safety material, and that corporate safety policy is followed. To accomplish this task the safety director should review all supervisor's accident investigation reports, provide training to location managers and supervisors, and periodically visit each of the company's locations.
COMPANY DRUG POLICY
The use of illegal drugs and misuse of prescription drugs, along with the excessive use of alcohol, has been the cause of many accidents in the work place. This misuse of drugs not only places the employee at risk, it also places the employee's co-workers at risk. It is the policy of Austgen Electric to provide a drug free work environment. There is to be no use of alcohol or drugs on company time, not excluding breaks. Any use of either substance in this time frame will result to immediate dismissal.
FIRST AID TREATMENT AND REPORTING PROCEDURES
"Accident Prevention, Emergency Preparation, First Aid". The immediate reporting of all injuries occurring on the job is mandatory. The prompt treatment of a seemingly minor injury can prevent it from becoming infected or otherwise more serious. The medical activity is prepared to provide the necessary treatment, regardless of how trivial the injury may appear to untrained eyes.
Austgen Electric tries to prevent accidents with safety training, including safety meetings. But, unfortunately, accidents can happen, and medical emergencies can crop up. We do have on-site employees trained and certified in CPR and first aid. Examples of emergencies are fainting or heart attacks. If you recognize a medical emergency, the first thing to do is to call for medical help immediately. There may also be other things you can do - and things you shouldn't do - which can make a big difference to the victim while you're waiting for help to arrive.
